Dr. Turcu’s interests span a wide spectrum of translational and clinical studies of adrenal pathology, including: congenital adrenal hyperplasia, primary aldosteronism, Cushing syndrome, pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma and nonfunctioning adrenal tumors. Dr. Turcu has expertise in mass spectrometry and dedicates much of her research to the development of novel biomarkers with clinical utility in adrenal disorders.

Sonja graduated from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor with a degree in Neuroscience. She is now a medical student at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine.
In her spare time, she likes to go rock climbing, waterskiing, and travel.

Amira is a junior at the University of Michigan who joined the lab in the fall of 2020. She is majoring in Biomolecular Science and hopes to pursue a career in medicine.
In her free time she enjoys knitting, reading, and spending time outdoors.

Haiping is a Research Area Specialist who joined the lab in the Fall of 2021. She has more than 10 years of laboratory experience. She works on steroid analysis and lab organization in Dr. Turcu's Lab.
She likes hiking, skiing, playing musical instruments, and cooking in her free time.

Chaelin is a postdoctoral fellow from South Korea. She majored in bioanalytical chemistry and is working on steroid analysis using LC-MS in Dr. Turcu's Lab.
In her free time, she enjoys watching movies and going for walks.

Research Assistant
Bjoern is a versatile Chemical Analyst / Technician from Saarbruecken, Germany. With more than 20 years of laboratory experience in industrial as well as academic settings, he will be supporting the Turcu Lab in LC/MS tasks and lab organization. He transferred from the School of Public Health / Environmental Health Sciences at UMich.
He loves spending time with his family, is a fanatic music fan (mainly Rock / Metal / Eighties) and enjoys watching sports.

Yuta Tezuka is a postdoctoral research fellow who commits his efforts to provide new insight into adrenal disorders. Yuta has 4-year clinical experience working at the endocrine unit of Tohoku University Hospital, Japan, where he also completed his PhD . Yuta is enthusiastic about clinical and translational research, particularly on primary aldosteronism, using pathological and biochemical approaches.
In his free time, Yuta enjoys BBQ, watching movies, and listening to classical music.
